How do you go from JCB to SOS?
We may not know as much about good vibrations as the Beach Boys, but when it comes to the bad variety, it's our expertise that's giving people excitations. Our Vibration & Disorientation Laboratory was created to test the human performance factors at work in extreme environments. In a lifeboat racing across high seas or a module hurtling through space, for instance.
The laboratory is equipped with a 2-metre stroke vertical vibration system, a 3-metre stroke horizontal linear oscillator and a range of angular motion devices and turntables. All of which means we really can shake it, baby.
Using field measurement equipment to assess crew vibration exposure in land, sea or air environments, we're able to shake our moneymaker for the widest range of clients. We helped a BBC documentary understand the effects of space sickness. We've spun people to evaluate new anti-nausea drugs. We tested the comfort of Virgin Atlantic's new seat designs. And we're playing a part in reducing the long-term health risks of working on building sites. Bad vibes. Good karma.
